There was a time when traffic, seat belts, alcohol or any other kind of drugs were the only main concerns when it came to safe journey. Unhappily with the advent of advanced technology, a small gizmo called a “cell phone” has easily made its position to the top of the list.
Nowadays, whether it is your relative, friend, a doctor, a professor or even your gardener, they all seem to have one thing in common-cell phones! As the use of these phones increases, leading to a concern that cell phone use while driving increases accidents. Evidence shows that almost each day 1 out of 4 road accidents occur as a result of using cell phones while driving.
Such a trouble can be avoided by simply keeping a few tips in mind.
1.Before you start your car,ensure that you have replied any expected calls or incoming text messages.
2.Use your cell phone only for necessary calls and keep conversations short and unemotional, especially in adverse weather and road conditions, residential areas and heavy traffic.
3.Tell the person you are talking to that you are at the wheel. Hang up or ask them to hold on if driving conditions require your complete attention.
4.Avoid dialing while driving. Use the redial or speed dial feature of your cell phone for simple, one-touch dialing. And if you must dial manually, do so only when the car is not moving.
5.Keep your phone within easy reach so you won’t need to take your eyes off the road.
6.Don’t read or send text messages while driving. Taking your eyes off the road can cause collision. Try to pull over where it’s safe to do so if you must text.
7.Activate the voice mail on your cell phone so you don’t miss any call.
8.If you must answer a call while driving, get a hands-free headset. But remember to attach your hands free to your phone and the other end carefully fixed in your ear before starting the car.
