How To Clean Car Battery Terminals

Sometimes, even a thin layer of corroded materials and gunk on or around battery terminals can completely stop the flow of battery current in the car’s ignition system, in result car refuses to start. A gooey substance starts forming on battery due to acid condensation that can not only make the performance of your car troublesome but can also affect the battery life. Thus, whenever, you find this kind of substance on the surface of your battery, its time to give the battery terminals a clean-up. Here are few instructions for the cleaning of battery terminals.
Preparation:- For the effective and safe cleaning of your car battery terminals you will be needing a number of things that comprises of rubber gloves, screw driver, razor blade, stiff-bristled brush, electrical tape, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or cola.
Instructions: -
1) Exposing your hands to the battery chemicals can prove very dangerous, so first of all wear a good quality of gloves to prevent your hands from coming in direct contact with acid.

2) Now, carefully rub the battery terminals with the help of stiff-bristled brush. For scratching the inside of ring terminals, you can take help of a pointed tool like screw driver.
3) Now its tie to check the wiring. Check the condition of the wires leading into the battery. If a whitish of greenish powder like substance has started forming under the copper wire sheeting than its time to cut-out the corroded wire. Cut open the housing of the copper wire by about ½ inch so that the shiny copper can be brought-out.
4) Now, stick-down the copper wires to the terminals with the help of electrical tape. The wires should be carefully tucked in and should not move from its place.
5) Now comes the most fun part of the battery cleaning task. Pour the baking soda-water solution on the terminals and try the rub-out the junk on the terminals.
