All of you must be surprising what kind of topic is this. Just ask anyone who has had the misfortune of having his car brakes failed and you will realize why I am talking about this topic. Almost every driver learns how to change a tire, but how many of you know how to stop a car if brakes failed. Only just a few, correct!
If you can stop your car without brakes, you just might head off an awful accident. You may or may not have advanced warning that your brakes will stop working; so be prepared for such an emergency by following the steps below.
1.The first tip, don’t panic. Stay calm. This will help you focus and tackle the situation in a better way.
2.Keep your eyes on the road and continue to steer. Avoid going in regions where there is pedestrians, heavy traffic or some dangerous obstacles. In case you enter in a heavy traffic area, then warn the pedestrians and other drivers by turning your hazard lights on. Plus, you can even honk the horn to make others aware that there is a problem.
3.Another tip is to pump the brakes several times so that enough pressure builds up in the braking system to help you stop the vehicle. Although this may take a time, do not give up hope and keep trying.
4.Now, shift to the lowest gear as it helps slow you by using your engine to sluggish the car. If you have a manual transmission, downshift rapidly.
5.Never forget to use the parking/emergency brake in such a condition. Don’t push or pull it suddenly, otherwise you might lose control of the vehicle completely. Apply the brake slowly and steadily. It is best to use the emergency brake after shifting the car in lowest gear.
6.Use friction to reduce the speed of vehicle. You can move the car towards the places that have dirt or gravel. However, be very careful while using friction, as sudden change of terrain can cause a car to skid.
7.If all these methods fail to work, it is the time to search for shrubbery and small trees. Try to put your car through the center of a line of saplings or shrubs, being careful not to choose a tree that is too heavy for your vehicle to go through.
8.Hit the back of another car but it should not be your first choice. If you’re going to do it, try to warn the driver of that car by honking the horn. Simultaneously, try to strike a car that is running at the similar speed as you are and strike the back.
Once you manage to stop the car, do not try to drive it again until you are sure the problem is solved.
