Simplistic Steps to Replace Your Car’s Engine Oil

Replacing your car’s engine oil is extremely important after few thousand miles as the oil in your car engine will begin to foul and damage the engine components. The automotive manufacturers advise to change the oil every 3,000 miles or three months. Many of us prefer to take our car to professional for engine oil change but the same can easily be done at home. Check the engine oil level and carry out these simplistic steps to replace your car’s engine oil. Make sure with the oil change you change your filter as well.
Instructions to follow:
1.Firstly, park your vehicle at a safe place and engage the parking break. Now place a pair of car jacks in the location best suited for your car. You need to hoist the front end of the car up in order to reach the oil pan.
2.Check out the oil filter and remove it, you can take the help of user manual to locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located next to the oil pan. You can use the locking wrench to turn the filter counter clockwise and remove it. Now empty the oil filter into an oil drain container.
3.After removing the oil filter, clean the mounting flange and also remove the sealing rubber gasket from the old filter. Rub a little bit of motor oil onto the rubber gasket of the new filter and place it again by hand.
4.Locate and remove the oil pan drain plug. What you need to do is to simply turn the plug counterclockwise using a socket wrench or the boxed end of a regular wrench. Keep a container ready to fill it with oil.
5.Drain the oil from the engine and meantime clean the drain plug and check its integrity. Check it thoroughly, if it’s broken or have a worn-out seal, better replace it immediately. After the oil is completely drained, reinsert the plug, screw it up and clean off the area around.
6.Just lower the car jacks now and add new engine oil to the car.
7.Remove the engine’s cap on the valve cover and fill four quarts of oil into your engine and screw up the cap back. Turn the car engine on and let it run for a minute.
8.Lastly, check the oil level by removing the dipstick and ensure that the oil level is between the indicated lines on the dipstick.
